I can't believe its not better

2 Corblimeythians 12 has Paul say to the Thians in v 10" For christs sake, I delight in weakness & insults, v16 Crafty fellow that I am, I caught you by trickery! v20 when I come I may not find you as I want you to be, and you may not find me as you want me to be. I fear that there may be quarrelling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, factions, slander, gossip, arrogance, disorder, sexual sin and debauchery." Well you would have to conclude from that that the Holy Spirit doesn't have any improving effect on people. Probably because it never existed. Self control is of value though. Actually it is misanthropic to criminalize normal human behaviour. Anger is a normal function of emotion when things happen that are not what you want. Sex drive is a natural part of adult life. What flaw could there be in chat? Surely hate & love are just part of life and not harmful as long as you don't break 2011 secular law/work place rules? Gor blimey, I can't believe the Bible isn't better. Actually, since I realise there is no God, it doesn't surprise me

The Word of Savages/god

Deutermoronomy 20v28 "If a man happens to meet a virgin...and rapes her, he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives." This command is totally unacceptable to modern civilized thought. It is the word of primitive savages who viewed virginity in a magical, symbolic, ritualistic way, whose taboos were irrational. Higher thought realises that virginity or previous partners is not an issue and what counts is mutual enjoyment/compatability. There is no reason why the raped girl wouldn't find another as her ideal partner after the rape. Just imagine how that command would work out: a man who couldn't get a girl would just pick out a beautiful girl he fancied, rape her and that would be him 'having her' for life. Abhorrent!? Is rape a throw back to our animal/ape-like past? Even modern decency would have said that the girl should be in no way stigmatized but rather receive sympathy and every assistance. Sam Harris L.T.A.C.N. writes (abr);' Even today some religions/cultures think that women are the property of men and "dishonor" their families by seeking a divorce, committing adultery, being raped/ sexually assaulted. Women in these situations are often murdered' This is immoral. The will/wishes of the woman should be respected.

Why we are atheists

In the good book '50 voices of disbelief' edited by Blackford & Schuklenk, there is an interesting chapter by evolutionary biologists Michael R. Rose & J.Phelan.p282 "We propose that god(s) evolved as one of our brain functions in the same sense that vision evolved as a means of processing stimuli arising from photons stimulating neural tissue...,this evolved function nudges us toward Darwinian ends and is neither trivial nor dysfunctional.p287 It might be supposed that the argument sketched here leads us to the view that organized and ad hoc religious practices should be exposed as some type of fraud. But we have no such view. Instead we see religious experience as about as valid or useful as erotica. It too concerns and stimulates an important function, one that is part of the behavioural substratum underlying evolutionary appropriate human conduct.... Religious experience is not divine in origin. instead, it is an evolved part of the human life, one that is abrogated or dismissed only at some peril. Gods are real and important, but they are neither transcendental nor all-powerful, and their origins are decidedly material. These gods no more deserve our worship or awe than our livers do."

Letter to a christian nation

Sam Harris writes in his excellent book p26 "Consider, for instance HPV, which is now the most common sexually transmitted disease in the U.S. The virus infects over 50% of the U.S. population and causes 5000 women to die each year from cervical cancer. We now have a vaccine for HPV yet christian consevatives in our government have resisted a vaccination program on the grounds that HPV is a valuable impediment to premarital sex."
p 37Due to the church:" In El Salvador, abortion is now illegal under all circumstances. There are women serving 30 years for having a back street abortion. Imagine this, in a country that also stigmatizes the use of contraception as a sin against God."
The well being of people needs to be the priority not meaningless symbolic ideas of sin/ magical purity of virginity. If there is any real error it is the one of denying helpful technology.

Dr No

If you investigate what comes from the mouth of Christianity, if you look down it's throat, you will see only a Tube. If you look for the true foundations, you will see there is no solid rock, just something rhyming with it---- ,just shifting sand dunes of myth. If you dig down in search of the core truth you will see there is no bottom, only an Asshole, maybe not even that. The further down you look just leads to the cesspit of earlier myth & delusion. Don't let it make a monkey out of you. Look up to the guiding stars of love and the well being of humanity. What is in our own interests in terms of health, enjoyment, happiness?
